My most important video ever is this: is this really my most important video? Well? First of all, it says it is on my hand and yeah. This is the most important video, because this is this is me this is this is something i've wanted to do for 20 years. I've wanted to make i wanted to what this i need a prop. This is my high school yearbook freshman year and right here.

This is me wearing a dress. That's me normal, like that's what i look like. That's my friend kyle, but that's me and my sister's dress. Why am i showing you my high school yearbook? Why is this video such a big deal? Why have i not been on youtube for seven months, they're all connected, so i've spent like it's really been like the last year, but intensely for, like the last six months, making a curriculum for like the casey neistat film school.

I want to take everything that i've learned in the world of filmmaking and and how i tell stories and self-expression, and i wanted to put that into like a proper curriculum, so i can teach and share my process and understanding and everything else. So there's a lot more to it see i've always had a rather challenging relationship with education. In fact, uh freshman year here freshman year, was the last full year of high school or any school that i actually finished now i was a bad student for a lot of reasons. Most of them were my fault entirely.

I just remember being so disinterested in school. Like i just didn't care about what they were trying to teach me, i was like 15 and i didn't understand why i was being taught what i was being taught it just didn't, none of it, clicked that changed that changed when, when i discovered filmmakers filmmaking being My passion meant learning. It was something that i wanted to do. It was me choosing to like educate myself about something i really cared about, and that was like a moment that was a trigger for me in life, and that was like.

That was the moment. I fell in love with filmmaking, yes, but i fell in love with learning you're making a movie for nyu yeah well yeah, so you guys are in film school at nyu, yeah, tisch and like what are you learning at film school? You know. That's a good question! All right all right, so this video that i'm making right here is about, like i'm launching my own, like film school, it's like the casey neistat film school um. I'm morning filmmaking right now, i'm in documentary i'm an advanced documentary, i'm putting together my own, like casey film school, really yeah, wow.

Okay, do you have any advice for me, but i feel like the experience of collaborating with other filmmakers is extremely valuable. So that's what i'm here for collaborating meeting like-minded people that makes a big difference. Yeah nice, to meet you nice to meet you good luck with your class. Thank you.

Take care now. Look! I have nothing against nyu. This is nyu. Here i mean spike.

Lee went to nyu martin's where stazey went to nyu. Adam sandler went to nyu it's a great institution, but costs 54 880 a year times. Four education has changed, just like filmmaking has changed, and maybe you don't want to be the next martin scorsese. Maybe you just want to know how to express yourself by making movies, or maybe you just want to share something, and videos are the best way to do that.
I think back to when i was like 17. I first discovered what it meant to like make videos. I would have killed for a crash course from like michelle, gondry or spike jones, or any of these guys that i looked up to when i was a aspiring filmmaker. I would have loved some way to access their thought process with that, like that aspiration that i had when i was younger that i kind of designed this and designed this curriculum here, the sirens, nothing changes in new york city, there are always sirens interrupting me.

First, rule of filmmaking sound proof, studio, yeah, all right, josh you're, a super successful filmmaker when i got exposed to their movies and i saw what they they have done and how amazing their stuff is, and the fact that they wanted to work with me. That was exciting, but back in the day you and i made movies together. So i guess my question for you. What would you tell people that they might have to learn about filmmaking from me? I mean i'm thinking.

I mean it's the truth for me. I i i what i what i learned from you is something you learn from. You know, jumping off a cliff you, you don't know what it feels like until you jump right. That's one of my first lessons is about.

Is that true? Yes, just committing so uh? What is it what's the class i worked with a company called monthly and together we spent uh several weeks here in this studio, shooting like the classes. Okay, this is it. This is we're starting shooting for the first time, all right guys, i'm ready i'm ready to teach they did they like soundproofed. This whole room, wow, okay, let's go day, one take one.

It was very strange having like a professional video team here filming me, but they were great. It was really it looks good like it doesn't. Look like one of my silly youtube videos. It looks great.

There has never been a lighting kit like this in my studio before and then it's me teaching you like how i make films while i make a movie. So it's it's a really like it's a dynamic course, but it's just about how i do things. So it's not technical! If you want to learn how to use your camera, just google it or whatever it's not about how to get a lot of views on youtube. Ask mr beast: if that's your goal, it's it's much more about how i see filmmaking as sort of the ultimate tool for self-expression.

What is this place? We're in the screening room at jerry, bruckheimer films? Why are you tell me what a big deal you are? Why are you at jerry, brockheimer films, uh? Well, it's a pretty big deal henry and i just directed a film for produced by jerry brockheimer rel. Here is a very, very, very big deal, but long before he was a big deal. He and i used to work together on movies and i'm i'm wondering like if you could share, do you have any anecdote? Do you have you i'm trying to convince them to you? Were my first jerry bruckheimer there's, i think, there's a lot of ways to make a movie and casey neistat taught me the most self-sufficient way i went to film school for years. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars on it and don't tell nyu, but i think i might have learned more in four weeks working for casey neistat than two years at film school.
Okay, when does your movie come out? Well, in theaters uh summer next summer, 2022 secret headquarters, it's called secret headquarters. It's called secret headquarters right now, we're in the secret headquarter finishing the movie that'll come out next summer, i'm usually like a pretty confident guy, but i'm genuinely nervous about this um. The reason why i've never tried to share my process like share my how i make movies before is because i wanted to get it right. That's why this is like the most important it's faded.

The most important video i've made is because this is the first time i'm bringing this to the universe. I'm sharing this with you. If you've watched this video, this long, maybe you're interested in it. If you are there's a link below you should sign up, you should do it.

It's 300 bucks it's a month, long! It's not like a full-time thing. It's just like you. Do it at your leisure. It's not like a heavy lift.

It's like a fun thing and then i hope to get your feedback like. I hope i'm nervous about this all right. Here's like a little thing that edited from the actual class. This is what it looks like hi, i'm casey neistat and welcome to my monthly class.

This class is a hands-on 30-day learning experience designed to teach you everything that i know about filmmaking and storytelling. You.

3hrs and not 1 dislike, thats what i like to see. I always wondered about the "behind the scenes" of how you do it. I know you made a movie awhile ago about little things but this is fantastic. A more in depth process is just what I need. Will sign up.

That intro, those transitions, Casey on his studio….all that it just gave me really good goosebumps. Almost a nostalgic feel to it. I think I speak for many saying we apreciate so much your work Casey and you are still one of the top references on storytelling here in Youtube.

I kinda feel like casey comes back whenever he needs to 'use' his audience. I miss his old video when he used to upload without any request from the subscribers 😢
