You should really wear life jackets and you need a permit from the parks department .
Which costs me about 15 dollars for the season , which i think is between April to November .
No law enforcement has ever asked me about the permit yet , but heard stories of people
being asked to produce it, and you could be fined if you don't have one. So small price to pay.
Good luck this summer , can't wait til the water warms up to do some paddling in my kayak.

I have been on that river many times and worked in it hundreds of times as a diver. That and the Hudson River.

Ahhh, The great pleasure of having white skin in NYC and doing something that would have surely got a black person a ticket or arrested. White priv is spectacular to witness when you're black. You gotta say "Wow, I wish i could do that."
Dopey, not doing this with life jackets. Criminally stupid. But, all's well that ends well and harbor patrol ride is worth the hassle. I'm surprised you're not being charged a fee.
I don't get how this is so dangerous? I know there's a current but it's not like it's white water. You could just swim the rest of the way if you lose your board
