They give cars 90% of the street space and everyone else (bikes, pedestrians, wheel chairs, scooters, skateboards) are crammed on the 10% of space left over. Even though only 22% of New Yorkers own a car. The space needs to be given back to the people. Sure there can be a car lane, but only 1 in each direction. The minority of people shouldn't get the majority of space, especially when driving a car makes the city less safe and more polluted than literally any other way to get around.

Hmmmm, Let me start by saying that I am an elderly cyclist and for all that I understand what you are saying/trying to say, I will say YOU ARE WRONG, plain and simple.
You said that you have lived there for a very long time you pointed out the signs that you obviously repeatedly ignore yet still try to argue that you are correct and the city is incorrect.
In the citywide planning the situation may very well be safer and correct, and in you very small self centred world you cannot see that because you are too caught up in pushing your own version of what is intuitive.

I guess part of the issue is that US cops are way too eager to sign tickets. In Europe people would never fine someone on a bike because they are encouraging using the bike
The way that the police officer was speaking didn't really align with my expectation of "a total and a very respectful gentleman" 😂
