There he is there's my brother van, so let's run it up a pole and see who salutes you like that carl that was my great uncle louie nye. He was like a comedian in the 60s. Very successful changed his name from nystat to 9, just because it was easier to to pronounce you'd, probably i'd, never heard of my uncle louis nye, but today's video is about another nice that, maybe you don't know enough about, and that is my brother van neistadt. Let me start with a little bio.

So, 42 years ago my mom was a single mom working as a waitress in a restaurant, and she had a little baby boy. Named van my dad went into that restaurant met, my mom started dating her met van really liked van then my mom married my dad and my dad. So my dad married my mom and then my dad barry nystat nice that then adopted there. Then my sister was born and i was born and my little brother was born and we had this childhood that wasn't a bad childhood.

It was just a childhood. It was a good childhood. Then van went to college like whatever 12 years later and he went to college in virginia, which is far away from where we lived in connecticut. And i ran away from home when i was 15 and i ran away from home to van in virginia.

But for me to go to high school in virginia, i needed to have like a guardian, a parent, so it was at that point in time. So at that point in time van adopted a nice dad me full circle van was my legal guardian. Okay, then, i moved back to connecticut. I had a kid van move to new york city.

I went to visit van the summer of 2000 and he showed me his computer. It's the first time i ever edited a video, and that first time i ever edited a video was because van sat me down in front of my computer and showed me how to do it. So i moved to new york city to become a filmmaker because of van because he had inspired that in me and when i moved there, he and i became like this filmmaking duo. There was no casey neistat, it was just the neistat brothers.

Every movie we made. We made together like ipod, dirty secret, the first video ever that got us any attention. It was van's idea and he was the one holding the camera spicy this video from like a 2002, maybe we're running around new york city, stealing our own bikes, to show that the cops didn't give a about stolen bikes and snap that one was also van's idea. You've never seen this is a video about sneaking into scholastics publishing headquarters to get really cheap lunch at their cafeteria.

We've been doing this for about three years. We only got in trouble once that was van's fault. It wasn't a bad video, but this was my idea. Not van's idea.

Okay, i was like looking for a video to show you what like a quintessential nystat brothers video. Was this video right here we're in paris for like work, and we were supposed to shoot a video that day and we couldn't there's this huge protest. Taking place so we got these like french punk rock kids, we put ski masks on. We made a big poster that said: viva la neistat brothers, la vie de nice, that i don't speak french and we tried to make the protest.
Look like it was like a nice that brothers celebratory protest. Anyhow, those were the kinds of videos we used to make at like the like the earliest days of our career and all of the early videos from my career had one thing in common, which is that i made them all with van wait. What are you doing? Wait, don't don't take off your pants, yet serious question and don't pull any punches who's, the most talented nice step, brother van? Why wouldn't you say? Okay, did you want me to say you, so we took our little partnership, the nightstand brothers, all all the way from like making silly videos online to having our own show on hbo, remember uncle louie, who had to change his last name. So people would know how to pronounce it.

This is one of my favorite segments from our hbo show that van made about how to pronounce our our name. It's pronounced, neistat, nice, like rice or ice or mice. Here's a little anecdote to help. You remember about seven years ago casey and i went to vegas and got drunk for a week and casey got a tattoo everywhere.

We went he loved to show off his nice tat nice dad the hbo show was awesome. It was basically a youtube vlog on hbo 10 years before anybody knew what a youtube vlog was, but hbo didn't think it was that awesome and they didn't renew us for a second season. So after that van left, new york city moved to l.a and the neistat brothers were no longer. I was just casey neistat in new york, and he was van neistat in la now van did a lot of things in la he worked on his art career.

He made other movies, he made sculptures, he made paintings. This is not a van neistat painting. This is van gogh, vincent van gogh, but one thing van, never did one thing van has never done is start a youtube channel. This house is where my brother van lives and this this gate here is a very good explanation of uh.

The kind of guy van is this gate is unique. One of a kind built by hand built by van for one purpose to protect x x, is van's little boy from the stairs love dad june 23rd. 2019.. You see there are a billion channels on youtube, but no channel like van's channel.

Unlike me, and most everyone else in the world, van's brain has not been poisoned by social media because he he's never really used social media and his videos are, unlike any other creators, because the guy doesn't watch youtube van studio when people would come to my office. In new york city, they would like look around like it was a museum or something that never really made sense. To me, until i stepped foot in here, is that a homemade gimbal us property night vision, yeah van, is a fascinating guy, but because he's not a youtuber, because he doesn't know the youtube world, his videos they're not motivated by likes or views or subscribers. It's just pure untouched creativity and that's.
Why he's my favorite youtuber he's the only youtuber i turn the little alarm on for and he might just accidentally be the best youtuber of all times. Did you mention my youtube channel? I did. I did mention your youtube channel. Okay thanks this.

I hadn't thought of Louis Nye for years till seeing this video. He was a regular on Steve Allen's shows, and I hadn't thought of Steve for almost as long.

The Netistat shit keeps flooding. "You were in Paris doing work"? Name the person you were working for. That would be helpful

I would like to thank Burt Kreischer for introducing me to Casey and then Van. I very much relate to Van and how his mind works.

I remember Louis Nye—He was on the Steve Allen show on Sunday afternoons, along with Don Knotts and two other comedians. I loved the show.

    KNOW THY HOLY TRINITY:
Before Casey there was Van and before Van there was Tom Sachs.

You can see the Tom Sachs inspiration in Van’s studio as well, but not nearly as much as in Casey’s old NYC studio!

You are still popular because you have evolved with your audience. You grew up and brought them along. You aren’t trying to be something you aren’t. I like it.
